The time for holding it would largely de?end upon the Dominions themselves, 'heir Governments were engaged at work as strenuously as the Imperial Gov- _ ernment. The links binding Britain to •• her Empire were now strong chains, as - the result of their common difficulties and dangers, and if all brought their united courage, determination, and generous minds to the task they could evolve the greatest, strongest, and most 6elf-reliant Empire the world has ever seen.—Aus.-N.Z. BRITISH RAILWAY FARES FIFTY PER CENT, ADVANCE. (Rec. December 21, 6.5 p.m.) London, December 20. In the House of Commons Sir. 6. H. Roberts, Secretary to the Board of Trade, announced that railway passenger fares would on January 1 be increased by 60 per cent., except in respect of workmen's and season tickets up to 40 miles. There would' also be restrictions on the passenger service.— Renter.
