From a good start Waitaki soon established a slight lead, but Christ's College, rowing a longer and easier stroke impressed the spectators as being the much better combination. The local boys had a lead of a length at the end tf the first quarter of a mile, and Waitaki, although they rowed well, could rot decrease the deficiency.
