MESSAGE FROM MR. LLOYD GEORGE

TO THE PEOPLE OF NEW \ ZEALAND

/Auckland, December 20. His Excellency the Governor has re-, ceived a telegram from the. Secretary of 1 State for the Colonies, 'conveying the following message from Mr. Lloyd George on his appointment as Prime Minister:—

"On taking up the high office with which His Majesty, the King has charged me, I send you, .on j bohalf of the people of :the Old ; Country, a message.to;our brothers beyond the seas. There is no failing in oui'determination that the : sacrifices which we and you have ; made—and have still to make — : : phall not be in vain,, and that the ■, - fight.which wo. are waging together .for humanity and civilisation,shall be fought to a.triumpliant victory. ' We realise that wo shall need every man that we.can put into the field, eyery pound that rigid private and public economy can provide, and ' . every effort wilich. a united people can put forth to help in tho "heavy ' task of our soldiers and sailors. The splendid contribution to the common cause already made, by the Dominions can give us sure confidence that their determination is no. less high .than ours, and --tliat however, long the path to 6nal victory may be we shall tread it side by side.—(Sgd.) Lloyd George." In handing'the communication to .the Press for publication, tho I lon.' James Allen, who is at present visiting Auckland, said it was difficult to realise a more stimulating message than the one which had come to New Zealand from Mr. Lloyd George. "It is very gratifying to Now Zealand," said Mr. Allen, "to think ; tbat tho newly-appointed Prime Minister appreciates the contribution to the common cause that has been made by this and other Dominions. It needs no words from New Zealandcrs to assure him that wo all are confident in the determination to stand akngside the Mother Country on tho path to final victory, and wo hope lasting peace. I do hope that this messago will le Tead by everyone in this country, and. will ho pondered over at this time, and as a result wo shall be more determined than ever to continue to do our part in bringing about the results that we all so earnestly desire."
