_ Acting-Judge E. M. Watson, of Samoa (formerly of the legal firm of Watson and Meredith), who has be*n' on furlough in New Zealand, leaves for Sydney by the Riverina to-day en route for Apia.

Five applications' were leceived for the position of medical superintendent of Christcburch Hospital, from which Dr. H. R. Scott recently resigned. The board decided to ask Dr. C. Dillworth Fox, a former superintendent, to take the position, if he is relieved fiom the military duties he has undertaken.— Press Association.

Dr. Basil Adams, who was brought to New Zealand as tuberculosis 'expert by the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and who has been wearing khaki for a year past, has been in poor Health of late, and it is understood that he is severing his connection with the Defence Forces at the end of the month. Owing to tlio uncertain state or his health, ho may nob resume his duties under the board

Mr. John Coyle severs his connection with the AVellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board as secretary this week, in order to wear tho khaki of tho King. His duties aro to bo undertaken by the accountant, Mr. S. Robertson, who hands Ills late duties over to Mr. F. Brown. Mr. G. W. Eiby becomes chief clerk, and Mr. J. AV. Salmon (lato postmaster at Newtown) has accepted tho post of registrar, duties recently carried out by Mr. Eiby.

Mr. Ronald K.Lyon, of the staff of Aubrey Gualtor and Co., and secretary of the AVellington Savage Club, is to go into camp next month.

Mr. Maurice Humdall, formerly of tho clerical staff of Messrs. M'Eldowney Bros., of Wellington, and who has been fighting in France with tho British Forces since the early stages of the war, has been wounded for the second time. In actton at the Sommo an explosive bullet went clean through his helmet in a downwards direction, tore his back open and lodged in his rght shoulder. Ho was in a Brighton hospital when the mail left, and was doing as well as could.be expected.

Among the visitors to Wcllinjiton who will spend the Christmas here lb" Mr. Allan Hamilton, formerly a well-known theatrical manager in Australia, who has decided to settle m England, whero ho has business interests. Mr. Hamilton arrived in Australia from london somo two months ago, and after a brief stay in Rotoiua is now abcut to leavo again for»the Old Country.

Mr. J. W. A. Hcenan (Registrar of Electors for AVellington North) was successful in passing tho final of the Solicitors' Examination held-in November and has now completed lis LL.D. degree.

Lieut. T. H. Jones (N.Z. Treasury), who was on the Headquarters Staff of tho N.Z. Division and N.Z. Rifle Brigade in Egypt, and returned for duty in May last, was successful ju passing the final subjects of the Solicitors' Examination at the N.Z. University ex T aminations held in November. Lieut. Jones also distinguished himself in the Accountants' Examination Then t:.ken over by the N.Z. University, and is ono of two officials in the N.Z. Public Service to have qualified both in law and accountancy.

In a lotter addressed to Lis mother, Captain (Dr.) W. E. Giblin, ft.ii.M.C., of Chatswood aud Sydney, who is now attached to the North Royal Lancashires in France, remarks casually. "I suppose you will hear that 1 lave been granted the Military Cross. I do not know what for; I suppose others do." No particulars beyond this characteristic note, however, have come to hand. Captain Giblin, who is 30 years of ajje, is a son of the late N. F. Giblin, who was at one time manager of tho Hank of New Zealand, and afterwards official assignee in Sydney. He was educated at tho North Sydney Grammar School, and passed through" the Sydney versity. Later he was sent to New Guinea for two years to study tropical diseases. Twelve ago he left for England, where he enlisted.
