Secretary V. B. fitratton, of the Egmont Racing Club, has.issued his programme for the summer meeting. The Egmont Cup, one mile, and-'a'half, is worth .500 buts., and the'Atkinson Memorial, one mile and'a quarter, 850 sovs. The two open sprint events : aro each worth 250 sovs., and the Hack Hurdles each day are endowed with 120 sovs. Entries for all ovents close on Monday. January 8, at 9 p.m.

The New Zealand-bred Eongopai (Conqueror—Punawai), who was taken to Melbourne by E. Cameron, and won Beveral races there, has recently changed hands, and is now owned in Sydney. At the Rosehill meeting on December 8, he start--ed favourite in this Hurdles, and,.ridden by E. Moon, .won easily.
(At the Moorofield meeting this, month Mr. G.'M.'.Currie's.Common Law occupied the position of runner-up to Firet Lesson in the December Handicap, one mile and.a quarter.
It is reported that the .Wanganm.Tretting'Club hAve purchased Mrs. Tester's property on; No. 3 Lino for the purposes of a : trotting' course.The site is convenient to both trams and trains, is well situated with pretty surroundings, and is only about a mile and a half from the Wangariui Post Office.
While in England attending tho last yearling sales, the es-New Zealander (Mr. Andrew Eoberston), who buys for the Messrs. A. and G. Tye, of Melbourne, for whom his brother "Lou" trains, .purchased ten youngsters, which arrived in Melbourne last week. The sires represented include the best in England, and are Polymelus, Millonyx, Santoi, Eadium, Bayardo, Llangibby, Henry tho First, and John o' Gaunt. Tho highest-priced of tho youngsters only cost 520gn.
At tho Ballarat Turf Clob meeting held this month, Calton (Marble Arch— Holyrood) won the Welter .Handicap, for which he started favourite. The New Zealand-bred horse was formerly the property of Mr. Septimus Miller, but is now owned by Mr. W. H. Boyd.
The Chokebore cast off Snapdragon, who has been a complete failure since being sold in Sydney, finished in third placo in the Lake Welter Handicap at
tho Kembla Grange meeting on December 12. It is stated that tho Blenheim ownertrainer, Mr. A. Rorc, missed the nominations for the Wellington meeting, for which ho intended entering Heel Tap, Pariform, and Ima Ribbon. The Manawatu Racing Club notifies that tho whole of tho profits of the meeting, to be held on Docember 26, 27, and 29, will go to the patriotic funds. The first race each day starts at noon. Holiday excursion fares will bo available. On Boxing Daj; a train leaves Paekakariki at 6.40 a.m., picking up passengers where required, and will run via tho course. Trains leave Wellington 7.10 (special), 7.15 (relief Wanganui mail, arriving Awapuni 11.20), 8.20 (ordinary New Plymouth mail), and 9.-10 a.m. (Napier mail). The special runs via tho course and picks *p passengers anywhere en route. Both ordinary and relief mail trains, up and down, stop at Awapuni railway station. On Wednesday and Friday the 7.10 a.m. special from Wellington will not run. All other trains will run as specified above. Return trains for Wellington leave the course on Boxing Night at 5.i5 and 6.15 o'clock. On Wednesday and Friday the 5.45 p.m. only will run. Word from England by the last mall states that Driver H. M. Speed, a wollknown owner and steward of the Wanganui Jockey Club, who was wounded in France, has been discharged from the forces as unfit. He is recuperating in London, but hopes to leave shortly on his return home. King Lupin, who scored in the Flying Handicap at Waipa on with 9st. 13lb. on his back, is engaged in the Railway Handicap at Ellerslie with -Set. 91b.' He scored in the same event three years ago, and his supporters think he will show up again on Boxing Day. Taringamutu, who pulled up lame after a great mile gallop on Saturday, has been scratched by Mr. G. Nash for ■ the Manawatu meeting, hut Mr. Nash hopes that she will be fit to rnn at Tauherenikau at the New Year. T. Quinlivan, who went North with his team last night, was one of the last .to reach Ellerslie. The Hastings trainer has a very useful team, and he expects Blackall, runner-up to Balboa last year, to improve on this performance.
