HATAITAI MUNICIPAL ELECTORS
r— — . Important matters aft'ectiijg the district were brought' forward bei'oro a full attendance, of members of tho Hataitai ; Jlunicipal Electors' Association on Monday ovening, Mr. Leigh Hunt presiding. The report of the deputation, which waited upon the Tramway authorities on November 21, was received. It stated that tho shortage of rolling stock, the difficulties of getting now material to complete new ears and the extension of tho services on other lines, made it so that 110 further cars could bo i>ut on the tunnel route at tho present time. The tramway authorities quite realised ,that tho overcrowding was uncomfortable, but did not see what could be done to relievo matters. A letter is to be sent thanking the tramway authorities for the way in which the, deputation had been received, and for the information shown which proved that tho existing tunnel cannot carry more cars than are .at present time running, through during rush hours, and that the cars aro earryiug far moro passengers than they are reasonably supposed to take, further, that the association will assist the authorities in all ways possible, in any efforts that are made to provide a new tunnel which seems to be the only solution of the difficulties. : The sub-committee presented a report upon the urgent needs of the district, and this, report was adopted and is to be presented to the City Council. Among other things, the district badly requires a playing area as, although a modern suburb, there is not a piece of flat land ill the district set apart for the use of children. Suitable sites are mentioned in the report which could be quite easily turned into beautiful parks. High level footpaths are urgently required in many streets, and the council is to bo asked to complete the footpaths in the various roads. The continuation of the esplanade in Evans Bay l?oad is of vital necessity, as during tho summer months the beach is daily crowded with children, uud owing to the largo amount of motor traffic the rand- is very dangerous. The council is to bo asked to erect warning boards at each end of tho bay at once. A letter was received from the City Council regretting that .the suggested biweekly clearance of rubbish bins could not be undertaken owing to the difficulty of obtaining material and labour. A letter was also received from the Postal Department regretting that a slot telephone could not be erected at the junction of Waipapa and Arawa Koads as suggested. The association will, however, again approach the Department 'regarding this matter.
