CIVIL BUSINESS RENT AND POSSESSION CLAIMED In the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., the Public Trustee proceeded against William Baillie for £11 Is. rent, and for possession of a house. Judgment was for plaintiff for £8 Is, and possession. DEBT CASES. In the following cases judgment was entered by Mr. W..G. ltiddell, S.M., for tlie plaintiffs'by defaultAllen Smith v. F. W. Baker, £1 55., costs 75.; James Dillon v. Robert Hedley Craig, £5 4s. 10d., costs £1 6s. 6d.; P. Hayman and Co. v. A. R. Townsend, 15s. 2d., costs ss. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. J. Scott was ordered to pay Fredcriok Knigge £1 19s. 6d. by January 11; John Bailey to pay W. S. King £16 os. 3d. by January 16; John Bailey to pay Veitch and Allan £12 ss. by January 16; and John Bailey to pay Walter Wood £15 15s. by January 16. THE POLICE SIDE. PUNISHMENT FOR ASSAULT,

Arthur H. Sergent was fined £1 and John H. Sergent 10s. for assaulting Panny Lurajad, an employee at Fernandos' fish-curing establishment in Stout Street.

The evidence against the Sergcnts was to the effect that they picked a quarrel with Lurajad, and got him down, whereupon Arthur' Sergent punched him almost into insensibility. A police constable witnessed portion of the affray.

Tho accused said that Lurajad provoked the assault by throwing a h'apuka at Arthur Sergent. They added that Lurajad followed this up by assailing them' with a stick.

For insobriety, James M'Michacl was fined £1. ,

Ellen Walsh applied for separation, guardianship, and maintenance orders against Patrick Walsh. Her application was granted.
