The first of the inter-schools rowiug sontests was, contested on the Avon this afternoon, when .Waitaki Boys' High -School won .from Wanganui Col-' legiate School. ■ A good start was effected, and rowing the slightly quicker stroke,. Waitaki quickly established a lead of half a . wjilch they held [or about a quarter of a mile, then inoreasing the advantage to nearly' a length, notwithstanding they steered a very erratic course. With half tho distance covered, Wanganui made a fine effort, and drew up almost level, but Waitaki went away again and won by a bare length. Time, omin. 21 1-osec. Christ's College defeated!
