SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Christmas Dinner at Trentham. Fortunately for everybody concerned, yesterday was a perfect day for the open-air dinner given by the Mayoress and her committee and helpers. On arrival at tho camp each matron in charge of a table was'provided with a numbered card, and sho presented this card, and tho requisite rations for her tabte were then given out. This very busincss-liko arrangement saved a great deal of trouble and confusion, in fact everything worked out quite smoothly, and reflected the highest credit ou all the ladies concerned in the management of the dinner party. The ladies immediately set about their numerous duties. Lettuces were cleaned and out up, fruit prepared for the fruit salads; the trestle/tables were prettily decorated' and laid, on the far side of the racecourse, where a number of troes mado a .very effective background for tho mise-en-scene. An orderly was appointed to help at each table, to fetch food, etc., from tho adjoining tents. A great l convenience was the large tank of water wliich was kept boiling all day. Just before the hour arranged for the dinner the commissariat wagons arrived with large barrels of gingerbeer and all manner of soft drinks, which wore rapidly decanted into jugs and, placed on the tables. After the dinner was over the men gave rousing, cheers for Mrs. Luke and .the hostesses, and the Trentham Band played "They are Jolly Good Fellows." Each matron in chargo of a table wore a red badge, with the number of her table on it, arid each helper wore a blue badge, with her table number on it. : >
