A CONSTABLE INJURED
■ A message to tho effect that a constable had been severely injured at 115 Molesworth Street was' received by Inspeotor Hendrey at the Central Police Station last evening, about 8 o'clock. Inspector M'Grath, accompanied bv Detective-Sergeants Rawle, Lewis, and Mason, and Constable Stanisland, at once proceeded to the:above address, and there found Constable William Fitzgerald lying on the floor seriously injured about the bead. .Constable Fitzgeraßf was removed to tho Hospital, and the occupant of the house, Charles Henderson, was detained pending inquiries* Tho report from the Hospital was that the injured man did not appear to stand in immediate dancer, but that the extent of his injuries could not be ascertained until tho swellings on his head had subsided. Upon receipt of this information, tho police arrested Henderson on a charge of doing Constable Fitzgerald grievous bodily barm. The injured constable is a young man, single, and a former resident of Waimate, where his parents live.
