SOUTH WELLINGTON.
For the year just ended at South Wellington School, l Smytho Hand secured the dux gold medal, presented by a, friend. Tho prizes for shooting were awarded as follow:—1st, Harold Preston (medal); 2nd, Harry Tilyard; 3rd Keith Croll; 4th, Alberfc Bentley. During the week the headmaster, Mr. Thomas, on behalf of tho staff, presented Lieut. Beechey, who has been a teacner at the school until March of this year, . with some useful articles, as a token of goodwill and appreciation on the part of his fellow teachers. Lieut. Beechey is shortly to leave for the front. Sixty-one children obtained proficiency certificates on the year's • work. The attendance during the year was excellent, one hundred and eighty children obtaining tho attendance certificate Amongst tho number, two boys established v hat may bo regarded as a record. George Howo has not been absent a singlo halfday for nine years. The School Commiti IS 1111 a s P ecif d prize for regular attendance. Thomas Bell has not been absent during the'past seven years.
