The secretary of the Slaughterman's "Union (Mr. M. J. Reardon) has written a letter to tho Acting-Prime Minister (tho Hon. J. Allen) on the question of tho available supply of slaughtermen for tho meat export season just opening. Mr. lleardon is apprehensive lest there may bo a very serious shortage. He states that. 1034 slaughtermen are required for works all over New Zealand, and that the available supply in sight is only about 450 men. The Wellington works are not yet busy, but it is understood that they do not anticipate such serious . difficulties about labour as Mr. Iteardon's figures might lead one to expect. That there will he a. shortage, and some difficulty in getting labour to man. works throughout, everybody concorncd recognises very fully,
An effort is to he made (say; our Masterton correspondent) to establish a club in connection with the Masterton Branch of tho Koturned Soldiers' Association. A considerable sum of money has already been promised for the institution. ' '
