Nurse Elizabeth Nixon, 22/6, who is on active service with-tho New Zealand Forces, was reported to be ill in ' ospital in yesterday's hospital and piogress report.

The Victoria College girls undertook the entertaining of the soldiers at the Returned Soldiers' Club last night. There was a large . attendance of tho soldiers and their friends', and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Tho following contributed to the programme: —The Misses C. Dwyer, Bennett, Martin, D. Pope, Rita Wilcocks, M. Stringer, Anyon, Martin, M. Wilcocks, and also young Master. AVinstOn MacCarthy, who is a great favourite wherever he goes. After supper tlie usual adjournment was made to the other room, and the dancing began.

■ At the Sydney Street Soldiers' Club last night. Turner's String Band supplied a really varied and excellent programme, which was grtatly enjoyed py the men, and all those who were present, /

A sum of £100 has been voted by the Wairarapa Patriotic Association to Mesdames Empson arid Wilson, who are extending relief and assistance to New Zealand soldiers in England. A sum of £100 has alfo been voted to the Volunteer Sisterhood to enable Christmas' comforts to bo provided for soldiers at a special lmtment at Codford, ill England.

Red Cross Committee. The monthly meeting of the' Wellington Women's lied Gross Committee took place on Thursday. There was a very good attendance of members. Mrs. Corkill tendered her resignation as she is leaving very shortly for Great Britain. The committee accepted her resignation with regret. Mrs. Corkill ■was. one of the most capable and -useful'workers at the repot, and she will be very much missed. Mrs. Boss has -been elected in her place as head of -the unpacking, sorting, and packing department. Mrs. Eose has already shown her usefulness and capabilities as head, pro. tern., of the bandage department. Mrs. Myers still continues her good work as head of the comforts department. She has been busy- ;this ■week making up her Christmas parcels for the sick and wounded in hospital. These goods have been distributed between the New Zealand AVar Contingent Association, Lowry Bay Convalescent Home, tho Bed Cross Dpot in Cairo, A 7 ictoria Military Ward, Trentliam, Featherston, and Tanherenikau Hospitals. Eighteen cases were sent to Christehurch for the reconditioning of tno hospital ship Maheno.

The Bed Cross Booms in Mercer Street closo on December 20th and reopen on January 15, 1917.

A very pleasant tea was given by Miss Minnio Arndt in her pretty studio in AVillis Street yesterday afternoon. Tea and delicious ices wore served during the afternoon, the latter being especially popular as the weather «as so warm. Amongst the guests were: Mrs. Arndt, Mrs. Napier, of Auckland, and her sister, Mrs. Gray, Mrs. L. Miles, Sirs. J. -Hannah, Mrs. F. M. B. Fisher, mid the Misses Arndt, 11.
