WAIRARAPA APPEALS.

Mastßrton, December 12. The Military Board resumed its sitting this morning. .-'. The appeal of Edward Maturin, labourer, Martinbbrough, on the grounds of undue hardship, was dismissed. The appeal of George Thomas Tinley, mill hand, Carterton, on all grounds except religious objection, was also dismissed.

Herbert James Freeman, painter, was granted exemption till the end of February. Exemption was granted to Roy Nix, farmer, of Parkvale, till March 31, on the grounds of occupation and undue hardship. / 'In. the case of Angus M'Master, farmer, of Matawhero, decision was deferred sine die, and exemption was granted in the meantime, provided appellant remains in : his present occupation. '

Frederick Dorset, farmer* of To Whiti, was granted exemption till January 31, and John Moore, farmer, was granted exemption till March 31.

William J. Stewart, dairy farmer, of Konirii, who has.two brothers on active service, and who has charge of seventy cows,- was granted exemption until March 31. t,

William Fitzgerald, railway employee, was exempted on the grounds that he is over military age. Decision in the case of James Allsop, dairy farmer, Mangatainolca, who claimed that he was over military age, ' '"was reserved, to enable him to pro- : duce his birth or marriage certificate. / CANTERBURY. The evi- ■ dence showed that the appellants were single men and .worked a farm of 712 acres. They hid financial obligations and found it difficult to got 'labour. 'Dip. chairman, Mr. J. S. Evans, remarked that the board.had received a report stating that there was no scarcity of labour in the Canterbury military district except in-the sawmilling trade in Nelson and -the West Coast. Leslie's .. appeal was dismissed, and Hetherington's esse was adjourned till Leslie is medically examined. If Leslie is pass- ' -ed Hetherinsiton's appeal will be al- . . lowed.
