What promises to • become the most popular and profitable strawberry in New Zealand has been placed for the first time on the southern market, where it is said to have scored a great success. This is the new Ettersburgh strawberry, grown exclusively at Island Block, Cen-'' tral Otago, by the Sunnyvale Orchard and Nursery Company. The Ettersburgh is a recent importation from the United States. ' Tt is stated to be a hardy, -rigorous plant, frost-resisting, and thrives in practically any soil. It grows to a. height of 2ft., and as much' as 31b. of berries has been taken from one plant. The berries themselves are flesh red to the core, of IBrst-class quality, of distinctive flavour, and nice size. When offered on the open market, these strawberries brought upwards of Cd. per pottle on advance of market prices.
