Brigadior-Goueral Sir A. W. Robin, General Officer Commanding the Forces, left 1 for Napier yesterday afternoon. Ho was accompanied by Captain D. Bryan, Assistant Military Secrotary. General llobiu will return to Wellington on Friday, and later will leave for Auckland for the purpose of meeting tho hospital ship Maheno.
Mr. Jamos Macintosh, who is in Nurse Vickers's Hospital, was reported hist ovening to bo improving.
Mr. W. L., Newnhain, Resident Engineer of the Public Works Department, Napier, who recontly volunteered for active service, has been presented with a gold "monkey," being an- exact replica of the one used to drive tho first pile of tho Wostshorc-East Coast railway bridge, as a token of the appreciation, of citizens of Napier.
The Hon. A. T. Maj;innity, M.L.C., and Mr. E,. M'Calliim, M.P., arrived by the Pateona last evening, and aro staying at the Boyal Oak Hotel.
Captain E. J. Hales, formerly master of the Terawluti, .writing to a friend iu Wellington, states that he has been given command of an armed patrol-boat and mine-sweepor. Thoso craft, lie states, are anything but plea-sure-boats, even to the hardened sailor. Captain Hales is a Terraco School old boy.
The death occurred on Monday of Mr. William Archer, of Macdonald Crescent, who was for a greab many years in charge of the Government Insurance Buildings in Wellington. The deceased,.. who was 81 years of age, wan born in Pinner, England, and had lived in Wellington since 1872. He has left a widow and a'family of four sons and five daughters. The late Mr. Archer had been in ill-health for over a year before his death. The interment,. Winch was private, was made in the Bolton Street Cemetery yesterday morning. The E<*v. H. Watson, Vicar of Si. Peter's, officiated at the graveside. ' •
The sudden deaih' is announced of Mr. Thomas F. Vance, a well-known citizen, of Wanganui.
A Press Association message in The Dominion yesterday stated thai Sergeant-Major Duncan Cameron had been drowned through the sinking of a motor launch at Albany. Private advice has been received that the person drowned was Sergt.-Major C. D. M'Kenzie, who was a. warrant officer on the Maheno. He was also formerly steward to the Governor of New Zealand.
