FRESH AIR FUND

Ss£i£Ll7 DONATIONS BRING GREAT RESULTS. (To tho Editor.) Sir, —Tho generous responds of the warm-hearted people of Wellington to the efforts of my pupils to raise a sum of money to send to Sir Arthur Pearson, in-aid of tho Fresh Air Fund, exceeded overything any of us had any right to expect. ft'© are remitting £40 to London, which will be sufficient to provide a holiday in the country during tho early spring, with plenty of wholesome food and entertainment, for 800 slum children. This sum represents 'tho whole of the proceeds of my pupils' efforts, with the exception of the charges for advertising, we paying tho other expenses ourselves and 'kind friends providing the music, limelight, scenery, and attend-1| ance. I hope you will allow mo to mention tho members of the Wellington South' Orchestra, and Mr. Liardet as having been particularly generous in this respect. • Since my pupils'. efforts I have received through tho post several dona 7 tions from good people who wished to assist, and JL am now writing to ask if you would receivo further subscriptions. This would not, I think, interfere with any of the other patriotic efforts we all wish to help on. A shilling is all we i want from each subscriber, and if we I get 1200 more shillings we could send 2000 slum children into the country to enjoy what would be called a Now Zealand Day. _ This would not be by way of advertisement, but in the hope that added zest would be given to the children's enjoyment by the-knowledge that their kith and kin at this, end of 1 the world wero taking thought for their welfare. I need scarcely say that many of the little ones we wish to benefit are the orphans of fathers who have given their lives for the Empire, and the cares of widowed mothers, who can afford them no pleasures.—l am, etc., DOROTHY K. SATJNDERS. 28S Wellington Terrace, December 5. [We shall uo glad to recoivo and acknowledge subscriptions, as suggested by Miss Saundors. Tho object in view is worthy of all tho support wo can give it. Every pound subscribed moans a red-letter day in tho lives of 20 slum children.]
