GRAND OPERA SEASON
7- »- THE GONSALEZ COMPANY. If heavy advance booking is any criterion, the first five nights of the Gorisalez Grand Opera season should be entirely successful. Yesterday at' tho Bristol, the management state, something like a record in advance booking -whs achieved. The Fuller management have evidently gauged popular taste in presenting a seaeon of grand opera, commencing on Tuesday next, with "II "Trovatore," of which fine work the. critic'of the Sydney "Sun" writes as follows:—The Gonsalez Company last night created little short, of a sensation, duo in a great measure to. the wonderful singing of Signor Cappelli as Maurice. The romance of moonlight and music brought the benediction of society. .- After an interval: of ■ many years, real Italian opera lias returned to the city, sung,by a cast of principals hailing from Italy, and conducted by a musician steep-' ed in the traditions of Verdi and its kind. Tlio performance from every point was worth going a very long way to hear." The cast of "II Trovatore" will include Signorina Belloni and Signori Cappelli, Scamuzzi, C'acilli, Barontini, and Sosea: On 'Thursday will begin "La Traviata," ■with Signorina Gonsalez, and Signori Dagradi, Filippini, Belloni,. Mosca, Pettrucci. Friday, for tlio first time here, "Cavnlleria Rusticana," and "I Pagliacci," when Signorina Visconi and Signor Loir will make first appearances. On Saturday night will be heard Lucia, with yet a fresh principal cast. The box plans for the second week will- be opened at the Bristol on 'Thursday next. There will be a matinee on Saturday next.
