THE DRIVERS' DISPUTE

GOVERNMENT TO AIIBITIUTK. The announcement of the settlement of the drivers' striko is still delayed. Reasons for further reticence are not obvious. It was announced yesterday that the parties having failed to agree as to terms, had consented to a proposal that Cabinet should decide the points at issue. That arrangement was made on Wednesday morning, and from that moment the striko was definitely "off." Cabinet has not yet declared to tho parties what its finding is, and it may bo presumed that the matter has not yet been considered. _ At last night's meeting of the Wellington Trades and Labour Council it was reported that the drivers' dispute was on tho road to settlement. The negotiations had made satisfactory progross, and tho dvivcrs' delegates worn content now to leave tho adjustment of details in the hands of the Government The council received iho report with satisfaction.
