MAGISTRATE'S COURT
A BACK-YARD THIEF. Mr. L. G. Roid, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. John Arthur Jackson appeared to answer three charges of theft of two pairs of trousers, cutting shears, pliers, etc., and pleaded guilty. Acting-In-spector M'Kimion stated that the accused was a back-yard thief, and had been previously convicted. The accused said his downfall, was duo to drink. The Magistrate sentenced tho man In two months'- imprisonment on the first charge, and a month on each of the other two charges, the sentences to run concurrently. A month's imprisonment was imposed on Pliyllis Ferraro for loitering in Cotu'tenay Place for immoral purposes, contrary to the War Regulations. For insobriety, two first offenders were convictpd and discharged, ami Richard Arthur Thomas, against whom there was one previous conviction, was ordered to pay medical expenses 155., in default three days' imprisonment. A remand for a week for further medical examination was granted in the case of Phillis Banks, charged with the theft of a lady's canvas suitrcaso and contents, valued at £7 os. Gd., the property of Mrs. Gray.
