Advice received in Wellington yestordoy stated that the Otago Harbour Board's dredge, 404, which has been in Melbourne for tlio past two years on lease to the Melbourne Harbour Board, has been purchased by that board. RIVERINA FROM SYDNEY. , Prom Sydney direct the Riverinn. arrived in port shortly after 7 o'clock yesterday morning, and berthed at No. 1 South, Qtieon's Whnrf. The Riverina cleared from Sydney at 10.45 p.m. on Friday, and strong westerly and south-westerly winds were experienced. She has 21C0 tons of cargo, including transhipments ex the Gange, Peru-, Malwn., Eastern, Booral, Tenryo Maru. Kilra Mam, Oma, Mataram, Kaituna, Chillogoc, Zeolnndia, Barwon, Tenno Maru. City of Agra. Marrant, and Oandia. The Riverina does not go south this trip, and' will leave here again at 5 p.m. on Friday for Sydnoy. RUAHINE FOR LONDON. Tho New Zealand Shipping Company advise that tho Ruahino,. which left London on Oetobor 17, and Colon on November 11, is duo at Auckland next Tuesday. She will arrive hero about December 10. ana afterwards goes on to Lyttelton and Dunedin. WELLINGTON-PICTON-NELSON SERVICE. The Union Company now advise that tho Takapuna will withdraw from tho Wel-lington-Picton-Nelson service on arrival hero on Saturday night. The Patcena, which lias been undergoing overhaul at Wellington, will then be Tecommissioued, and will take up the running on Monday next. The Takapuna will lay up here. GREYMOUTH AND WESTPORT. Advices from south yesterday stated that tho bar at Greymouth was in an unworkable condition yesterday, but it ttbb hoped to get. the Ngatoro. with coal for Wellington, out on tho midnight tide. The Kokiri managed to get out of Wcstport at 11.30 a.m. yesterday, and hopes were entertained that the Komata would bo able to get out of the port on the same tide as the Ngatoro. No word was received as to whether the Kanio had got out of Westport for Greymouth yesterday. PORT HACKING AND PORT STEPHENS. The C. and D. Line advise that the Port Hacking is at present en route for the Dominion from New York. Also that the Port Stephens (ex Star of Australia), a vessel of 9400 tons, is loading at Now York for Australian and Now Zealand. ports. THE LUOKENBACH LLNE. Advices received yesterday from Sydney state that the Florence Luckcnbach, the Edward Imckenbach, Edgar Luckcnbach, and tho Julia Luckenbach aro to load in New York for Australian and New Zealand ports. OVERSEAS VESSELS TO ARRIVE. Judging from the "Sydney Shipping List" there are busy times in store for Wellington shipping people before and after Christmas. During December thero aro a number of vessels due in tho port from oversea ports, amongst them being the Moana, due on Saturday next from San Francisco; the Athenic, due from London via, ports to-day, with a very large gene«al cargo; the Kurow, left Vancouver on November 10, and is due about December 5; the Araleun, due on Saturday from Montreal, via ports; the -Ruahino, duo hero about December 10; the Strathcsk, left New York on Novemher 3, and is due here a few days before Christmas; tho Century, from New York, is due on' December 12; there is a possibility of tho Willaston coming hecr from Newcastle before Christmas, although no date has yet. been fixed; and if the Port Lyttelton manages to get away From Australia, whero she is now delayed on account of the coal strike, she may also get here beforo Christmas. During the first two months after Christmas tho following boats should arrive here:— Akitn. Maru. from Japan; Arawa, from London; C. S. WARNING TO MARINERS. . Mr. Allport, Secretary for Marino, advises that the master of tho Putlki (Captain Whalstrom) reported on arrival from Wangnmu yesel-rday morning that a largo quantity of sawn timber was sighted, floating in tho track of vessels, and situated about twenty miles south of Wanganui. The timber has evidently been tho deck cargo of some vessel, and has * been washed overboard. Mariners are warned to keep a sharp look-out. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. By tho Riverina yesterday came the first news of an acoi.dcut to Mr. T. Bolton, tho fourth engineer of the vessel. Mr. Bolton was going about his duties as usual wheu hie left hand was caught in tho valve rod. This resulted in two fingers being badly crushed, and on arrival at Sydney Mr. Bolton was scut to the Hospital, whero it was considered necessary to amputate the two fingers. He was progressing favourably when tho Riverina left Sydney on Friday. Mr. H. Atkinson is acting-fourth ongincer on the vessel now. Mr. A. Inveracity, second engineer of the Maori, has come ashore and has been replaced by Mr. G. R. Falla. Mr. Falla's place of chief engineer of the Takapuna has been filled by Mr. J. M'Loan, late chief engineer of tho Warrimoo. Mr. C. S. Hamerton. son of Mr. and Mrs. S. G. Hamerton. Boulcott Terrace, has secured his chief engineer's certificate. Mr. namcrton, who served his time with Messrs. D. Robertson and Co., Wellington, left New Zealand four and a, half years ago. Since that time he has been engaged on the Atlantic Transport Line, and latterly his duties havo been directly connected with war transport services. The Marino Department advise that the Hinomoa has been delayed in her loading operations at Auckland on account of rain, and will now leave the northern port this morning in continuation of her trip round thi> lighthouses and' harbours. The Hawera wont on the Patent Slip yesterday to havo a new propeller fitted. Sho sails to-ilay for Patea. The Waitotars, on arrival from Sydney to-morrow, will berth at No. 1 North Queen.b Wharf, where she will load cargo for Vancouver. She sails for that port on Saturday. The Tarawera left Auckland at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, with 400 tons of cargo for Wellington.
