ITALIAN GRAND OPERA
' GONSALBZ SEASON. The box plans for tile first live nights of the Gonsalez season of grand opera, commencing at tho Grand Opera Hotiso on Tuesday next, will bo opened at the Bristol at nine to-morrow morning. It i 9 22 years since grand opera in Italian was heard here. A repertoire of so ample a nature as is offered during tho coming season should In itself pfsvo an irresistible attraction. This, added to the fact that the Gonsalez Company comes with a reputation of tho highest, and is possessed of a number of principal artists of acknowledged, ability and* position in the best of European capitals, materially enhances tho fascination of tho undertaking. Tho season will open w.ith the performance of "II Trovatore." It is asserted that no tenor of recent years in Australia has created so marked a success as Signor Cappelli (Manrico), the possessor of a beautiful and remarkable voice. A strong cast will include Signorina Do Eevers (Leonora), Signorina Rtiss (Azucena), Signor Cacciali (Ferrando), Signor Barontini (Luitz). The augmented and speciallyselected orchestra (80 instruments)* will bo conducted by Signor Giovanni Gonsalez, who will have as leader of orchestra, tho famous violinist De'Jarczynski. A special niatinco performance will ho given on Saturday week, when will ho performed "Cavalleria Rnsticana," and "I Pagliacci." For tho first fivo nights five operas are announced: "l'rovatorc," "Travista/" S'Celvalleria Rusticana.," "Lucia di Lammermoor" The stage operatic version of Mascagni's and Leoncavallo's masterpieces ("Cavalleria" and "Pagliacci") will ho seen for tho first timo here.
