The Education.Board yesterday considered applications from the Auckland Provincial Belgian Relief IHind and the Navy League for permission to. make direct patriotic appeals to the children attending the schools in this district. It was decided to inform the applicants that au appeal was made to the schools, only recently, and that, in tho case of tho appeal for tho Belgians, the application should bo maao through tho local organisation, controlling tho fund. The feeling of the board was opposed to anothor collection being made at present. Tho Mayor and councillors have been invited to attend the corporation employees' picnic, to bo held at Day's Bay on Saturday next. An invita.tion has also been extended to the Mavor Kid councillors to attend the opening of the now Queen's Theatre (in Cuba Street) on Monday, nest.
