"IDLE RUMOURS" REPLIED TO GENERAL HAIG AND MR, LLOYD GEORGE Auatralian-New Zealand Cable Association. (Rec. November.29, 8.40 p.m.) / London/ November 29. In the House of Lords, replying to x rumour that Mr. Lloyd George had 'arbitrarily appointed a civilian, Mr; Erio Gedges, to replace a military officer in an important position, in the Communications Department in Fiance,, the Earl of Derby denied the charges. , Tho Entire Array Council had the fullest confidence- in Sir Douglas Haig, and■' it was not truo that friction existed between him and any member ;of the Council. It was impossible to equal tho combination for success of •. Sir. Douglas Haig and Sir William Robert- - son. The one desire of everybody at the War Office was to assist that combination. Such idle rumours werecal- - ; ciliated to do-infinite harm in helping to destroy that confidence. Mr. Gedges' post was a new one, of which Sir Douglas Haig approved. './''■'
