Sailed.-Maori (8.20 p.m.), for Wellington. TIMARU. Sailed.-John (2.45 p.m.), for Wellington. ATHENIC FROM LONDON. An arrival at Auckland on Sunday morning was the R.M.S. Athenic, from London, via Hobart. The trip to the Dominion was uneventful, and moderate weather was experienced throughout. She brought 141 passengers, a'mail from the'troops, a BiU'cel mail, consisting of 549 packages, and a;, very large general cargo for the Dominion. The Wellington portion of her mails reached here yesterday. Captain J. E. Crossland,. R.N.R., E.D., is in command of the Athenic, and has the following officers with him;— Mr. N. Cole, chief, officer; Mr. Robert Reid, R.N.R., chief engineer; Mr. S. C. J. FreemanMatthews, purser. The other officers areMr. W. H. G. Yates, first officer; Mr. C. Rushworth and Mr. B. F. Aris, Marconi operators. The head office of the Shaw, Savill. and Albion Company advise that she will get to Wellington on Thursday next. ARALUEN FDOM MONTREAL. From Montreal, via Panama Canal direct, the cargo steamer Araluen arrived at Auckland on Sunday morning. The vessel, which is under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company, left Montreal on October 11 and Colon on October 30, with a large general cargo for New Zealand and . Australian ports. Moderate weather was experienced on the trip to the Dominion. Captain A. Neagle, who is in command, has associated with him the following officers •-Chief, Mr. E. W. Hindi; second, Mr. H. A. Denbow; third, Mr. A. C. Gros; first engineer, Mr. E. W. Casey; second, Mr. S. Kersey; third. ,MtvA. BradIcy; purser, Mr. J. Batty; Marconi operator, Mr. T. O. Gunderson. The latter is a native of Christchmch. At the outhnraK of war the Araluen was a German-owned boat, and was known as thhe Scharzrels. Being in Adelaide at the time, sho was promptly interned by the Federal Government, and is therefore now tho property of the 'Imperial authorities. Sim leaves Auckland to-day, and is duo 1 at Wellington on Saturday morning. PORT CHALMERS' MOVEMENTS. The C. and D. Line advise that if enough coal for the trip can possibly bo got at Sydney, the Port Chalmers will leave there on Saturday for Auckland. TETONE AT PORT NATAL. Advise was received in Wellington yesterday morning that tho steamer Petone, formerly a well-known collier on the New 'Zealand coast, had arrived at Port Natal,
South Africa, from New Zealand, via Australia nports. Captain Davies, at. one time second ojlicor of the Tongariro, is in command. "SYDNEY BOAT DUE TO-DAY. The Kuddart-Parker, Ltd., advise that a radio message was received from the master of the liiverina yesterday stating that tho vessel would get into nort at 7 o'clock this morning. She will berth ot No. J South Queen's Wharf. Owing to her late, arrival she does not go south this trip, and will not leave here for Sydney direct until Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock, instead of on Thursday. VTE'STKALU AGAIN DELAYED. The Huddart Parker advise that the Westralia has been delayed in Lyttclton, and is not duo here until Saturday. According to present arrangements, she will leave the same afternoon 'for Sydney, via east coast ports. WAITOTARA FOB VANCOTJVKJX. The Union Company now advise that the steamer Waitotara, due here on Thursday from Sydney, will load for Vancouver, not Ban Francisco, as previously announced, and will leave Wellington on Saturday for the Canadian port.. ' MESS TABLE GOSSIP. Several changes are reported in connection with tho - steamers of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, amongst them being the following:—Captain West, late of the Star of Scotland, is now in command of the Port Chalmers. Captain Mello, who last visited Australia as master of the Marere, is now in charge of the Port Victor. Captain Hoad, late of the Port Kcmbla. is now master of the Port Alma, and Captain Reynolds, formerly chief officer in the. company's employ, is now in charge of tho Port Campbell, and Captain Jack is now master of the Port Keinhla. In connection with the above changes, it if understood that Captains Jolly and Firth have both retired from the sea llr !•• W Lane on the llonowai as extra officer The 'Hawera goes on the slip to-day for cleaning, and is to come off again to-night and sail to-morrow for Patea. The Ngaknta will sail to-day for Grevmouth to load for Wellington, and will probably get back hero again on' Saturday or Sunday. The Ngatoro leaves Greymouth to-day, and is due here on Friday. The Ngahere left* hero last evening for Greymouth. The Norwegian baroue Narwhao (389 tons, Captain Hansen) sailed from San Franciwo on Novemher 17. She is due in Wellington about the middle of January. . . , . Tho Union Company advise that owing t'-> the diso"?;mised state of coastal shipping, the Talune brinfs Suva cargo for Auckland only this trip.
