FINE CHRISTMAS GIFT

FOR NEW ZEALANDERS AT THE FRONT. For some time past The Dominion has been making an effort (as it did last year) to raise a sum of money to be devoted solely to tho purchase cf the right sort of tobacco and popular brands of cigarettes to be distributed among our boys in tho trenches ufc Christmas. With help from other sources tho amount raised has reaohed the substantial total of £750, and that" amount was cabled Home yesterday by Mr. Brodie (of the. Empire Trading Co.) to that firm's headquarters 3t Home, with full instructions as to what is to be done with it. Under the strain, of the momentous work our men aro engaged in, there is nothing perhaps that affords such solace to 90 per cent, of the men as a good smoke. As many have - contributed to the provision of an cxcollent Christmas dinnor for those in tho fighting lino, if it be possible, we aro doubly sure that the men will enjoy tho smokes that are being sent forward.as the result) of the response to the New Zealand Expeditionary Force's Gift Tobacco Fund's appeal. Notification of.the above action was sent yesterday tjo the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luko), who has remitted any • moneys he has received on this account to this office.
