THE PISHING SEASON
FINANCE BETTER THAN LAST YEAR. As far as the AVellington Acclimatisation Society is concerned; tho present'! season, bids fair to bo more satisfactory financially than either of the two last seasons. . Owing to tho war the bottom dropped out of tho sport during the 1914-15 season. Last year it picked up a little, but though it was anticipated that the pinch would befelt perhaps even more severely than in the first year, results have proved, that it is likely to be an improvement on last year. Up to the present 650 men's (at £1), 195 boys' (at 55.), andj eloven ladjes' (at 55.) licenses have been issued in tho AVellington Acclimatisation District through the medium of tho Post Office, representing the sum of £694 10s. Tho return for tha whole of last season was £772 4s. net. • Mr. Dasent, tho secretary, bases his conclusion on the fact that the season has not yet advanced two months, andi that there is always a rush for licenses immediately before tho Christmas audi New Year holidays. From December 20, half-season licenses will be issued to men for 12s. 6d., but it must be clearly understood that those licenses are only good for tho Wellington district, and aro endorsed in red print to that effect. It- is almost necessary to mention that because last season some AVellington fishermen wore caught fishing at Lake Taupo, having 12s. 6d. licenses only, and t wero fined. So far Palmerston North heads the list for the largest amount received on account of licenses issued,, tho total being £ISO 155.; AVellington totals £146 55.; Pahiatua, £82 10s.; and Taihape, £41 10s.
