METHODIST CHURCH
WELLINGTON DISTRICT SYNOD. Tho sessions of the above Synod were resinned on Thursday morning in the Lower Uutk Methodist Church, the Rev. J. ft. Chapmqn presiding. The following were the on Foreign Mission work:—"(1) That we placo on record our appreciation of the generosity of tho Auckland district in providing <£500 towards amount necessary to provide a motor ketch for Papau." "(2) That the thanks of our Synodic given to tho Rev. W. R. Poole, of Fiji,, for his efficient deputation work in our district this year." • "(3) That the Synod regrets to hear that, owing to the late arrival of the information regarding the vacancies on the mission field, some of our-ministers, desirous of entering foreign mission work, have accepted circuit invitations which they cannot honourably break. Wo therefore) urge tlKit, if -possible, the information desired be made known earlier jn the year." The report of the committee on military and naval nif airs was received and adopted. The following were the resolutions in connection therewith:—"That the Wellington Military Committee advise the president of the conference re appointment of chaplains, and also'control the fnnd administered by Expeditionary Force chaplains; (2) that tho Rev. E. Drake be appointed a Territorial chaplain; (3) that '.he .Military Committee be congratulated on the renovation and furnishing of the Trentham Institute." Complimentary reference was made to the effective and successful way in which Chaplain-Captain Seamer had taken up his duties in:, succession to Chaplain-Captain Walker. The Rev. W. Beckett was elected district representative to act with the chairman on the Stationarv Committee of the conference, and tho Rev. J. Ward substitute. The report of the Committee of the Deaconess's Institution .was received, and it was decided to recommend that reports of a deaconess's work be made by the quarterly meeting employing her, not by the deaconess herself; that the length of annual holiday granted a deaconess bo a matter for the circuit Quarterly meeting to determine; also that it be within the power of a circuit to employ any lady, within or outside its bounds, whom 6uch circuit should consider ciualifie<l to act as deaconesa on probation, with a view to her'permaiient euinloyment on the work. The Synod congratulated the District Bible l Class "Onion on the success of the monthly socials now being tendered to the Methodist men in camp. Men leaving for the front carry with them fragrant memories of theso lianpy evenings in Wesley Hall. Tarannki' Street. This work of our Biblo Class unions was commended to the support of all our churches. This terminated the proceedings of the Synod.
