NOTES AND COMMENTS ; !Bt Glencoe.l A sportsman who arrived from Feilding yesterday states that' the whole 'of the accommodation has been bespoken for next week, and he anticipates that; lata arrivals will have considerable difficulty in getting boxes for their charges. It is certain that the Feilding Club. will have a record meeting! and there will be more horses racing there than ever previously. Ia Australia it is the custom to take horses forty and fifty miles te a meeting and return home the same evening. Though the railway, facilities in this country are not quite so up-to data should be an easy matter to arrange with the Department to bring horses from as far north as Wanganui and as far south as Otaki, and return them each, evening. This would get over the vexed question of accommodation. The four-year-old mare Fabriquette, by Vasco—Fabia, will be shipped from Lyttelton to-day to represent llr. Harvey Patterson at the summer meeting of the Auckland Racing Club, where Mr, Patterson will also have Tobasco racing. Tobasco, who is a three-year-old by Vasco—Lady irorina, has arrived in Auckland from Sydney. He was trained there by T. Payten and competed at the Australian:. Jockey Club's spring meeting last month, finishing third in the. Members' Handicap,"wbh by Mehi King. He claims an engagement in the Great Northern Derby;.; 1 So far nothing has been, decided on regarding the rebuilding of .the'members' stand at the Metropolitan Trotting Club's course, which was destoyed by fire this month. The, committee'of the club has had the matter under discussion, but the work, is hung' up at present, pending a final settlement 1 with the insurance companies. Bimeter will probably be shipped north' to-night to represent Mr. G. D. Greenwood at the Feilding Jockey Club's meeting. The amount of taxes paid to the Government by the Canterbury Jockey Club in connection -with tile recent spring meeting was , JE8677. 7s. Sd. " ' The Timaru meeting will be concluded to-day. The fields are not as big as wa are used to in this part of the Dominion, but the Tacing will doubtless be of interest. In the Hurdles there are only three runners, and Compulsion, who ■badly defeated Bore on the opening day, is now meeting the Calibre gelding on 201b. worse terms. This may not be "sufficient to bring them together, as Bora is-on the'small side, and docs not ■handle weight, well. All' Serene and Bon d'Or, winner and lunner-up in the Triiil Handicap, are agaiii to meet in the November Handicap. Private advices received from the south'state, that the All Red. mare was n trifle lucky to get. the. verdict on Thursday;' and most people thought Bon .d'Or won... Riugforin,: who is . a thoroughly, seasoned horse, should, be- able to concede All Ready 71b. in tho big handicap. In "the Stewards', Welter Handicap, seven furlongs, Week End, who has been racing consistently but unluckily of late, will be meeting a weaker field than the English mare lias been opposed "by in her' last for starts. Glendower, one of tho dead-heaters in Tlnirsdny's~race, is again to start to-day. So much money was invested on his chance on the opening day that he must have shown his connections .something special ,-in ; the way of a work-out, and he may again be in the" market to-daf, ' The two top-weights in-the concluSing event are both trained.--by S. Trilfofd. , They, Ardenmore and-Margarine, should furnish a good contest. . In addition to the concluding day at Timaru, there is also the v.Takanunn, meeting to interest sportsmen to-day. In the big handicap it is generally considered that Depreciation is .well handicapped, and in Deeley's ;hands he may be made favourite. The,son,of Campfire is a very handv little fellow, and should be quite at home on the turns, which are very sharp, and all in favour 'of a small horse. Tho well-handicanped - Tatterley and King Lupin may be" favourites in the Borough "Handicap, and Tararii Jack, who has not- been figuring prominently of late, may lw well in the market for the Tiri Hurdles. Amongst those who have been called to the colours .are the well-known Hiihden horsemen, W. Bell and-A. Oliver. W. Bowden, of Otaki, G. Lcitch, of New Plymouth, and H-. L. Kingan, of Trentham, also figure in the lists.
