LAYMEN'S MISSIONARY MOVEMENT

9 ANNUAL' REPORT. The annual report of tho Laymen's Missionary Movement, submitted at last evening's meeting) hold at tho Y.M.G'.A.,, . stated:—"Unfortunately through a, series of happenings a delay took place in the transference of tho papers, etc., to Wellington. These papers woro only received a fow iveeks ago. From only one of these associations have wo any Teport, viz., the Dunedin Association, 'who TcpoTtn that committee meetings', have _ been maintained as required, but that it was not possible to attempt any aggressive work in the various congregations, and consequently the.v could not report any additions to their membership. They have, however, 'kept the flag. flying,' and bo kept the organisation in existence. The Wellington Association has practically not done anything during the year, tho members finding that tho work in connection, -with the church, and other departments 1 of life have pressed heavily upon them during this time of war, and consequently tlicy havo allowed tho work to stand ovor in the meantime. We presume that other associations ha.ro found the same thing. It has been' decided to start a campaign to obtain a sum of, say, £20,000 for this most important work, and'we trust that the members of tho church will respond willingly." Tho Hon. J. G. W. Aitken occupied the chair. Thorn wero about fifty elders present. Tho report and bal-anco-sheet was read and adopted. Tho chairman said that a fund of £20,000 was suggested as the object to bo obtained for the prosecution of home mission work. It was moved that a sum of £10,000 bo collcctcd, in order to obtain a similar amount from a donor in ChTistchurch, who does not wish his name mentioned. This was seoonded by Mr. Rose, and was spoken to by Mr. Herons.
