RETURNED SOLDIERS' DAYS
Iho public are to bo provided with interest and amusement on December 1 and 2, and in lending their patronage to the entertainments offered by tlio committeo tlicy will 'bo assisting the returned men's club house oil Lambton Quay with funds for tlio upkeep. The ladies will start operations on Friday next with their usual fine energy. Tlio evening of that day is devoted to a torchlight procession tlio streets, and it is stated that this will be equal to, if not' superior to, anything of tlio kind seen in AYellington. On Saturday, December 2, a very assorted programme lias been arranged for tlio Basin Reserve. Many novel items will be presented, and the soldiers are making strenuous efforts to show what can be dono when they are on the job. Details of the attractions will bo placed before the publio later. Ono of these might be now specially mentioned, that is the blindfold squad drill. This item has been produced at large gatherings in England witli good results.

Lowe and Mrs. Dumbell), £22 7s._ Bd.;_ total,. £500. The Ladies' Auxiliary is anxious to thank all _those_ kind friends and helpers who assisted in building up this most satisfactory result. Extensive alterations are about to be carried out in the grounds of the Wellington South School. During- the summer holidays it is proposed' that the extensive playground on .the western sido of the school (Rintoul Street) shall be excavated and levelled down. The clay will bo cut away in a horseshoe shape, leaving a level playground and an encircling slope that increases generally in height as it approaches the school. It is proposed that tho graded bank .should either be planted with shrubs or turfed. The playing area is to be gravelled.. Ladies! In a recent list of Viotoria Cross t,wards is the name of a Salvation Army collier-soldier, Private J. H. Fl.vnn, of the South Wales When lie enlisted, soon after the war broke out, lie was employodl as a miner at Oivmtillery, Monmouthshire, where ho established a fine reputation for Salvation Army work, especially among young people.
