Walter Gow, of Dunedin, moved: "That the conference request shinning companies carryins cargo from the East to make a Hat rate of freight to all main ports of New Zealand, in place of differential rates such as that rulimr for some timo past on tea from Colombo, as follows land, 1555. lOd.i Wellington and Lyttelton. 1525. 7d.; Dunedin and Bluff, 1575. (kl." Mr. Gow said that the extraordinary thine was that the company whioli carried the tea to Svdnov was the company which made tho differentiations in the New Zealand rates. The Union Company, which brought the tea on to New Zealand from Sydney, carried to all four ports at the one rate, and got no benefit for the curious system of the other company. Members thought tlio system strango and wrong, and carried the motion unanimously.
