SOME OF THE STOCK AWARDS. By Telegraph.—(Special Correspondent.) Hawera, November 22. The first day of the Egmont A. and. P. Association Show passed off successfuljy to-day. The weather was fine/ and tnere was a fairly large. attendance. Moora Hunter's Estate accounted for all the entries in the Shorthorn class and ic Holstein Friesans. W. James, of New Plymouth annexed .' the cow championship, whilst the competition for the bull championship . resolved itself into a fight for the, red' ribbon between •W. 1. Lovelock arid H. E. Johnson, of Tokaora. The latter eventually won the day with .King Rose de Xol. J. P. O'Donnell, of Inaha, penned the champion Jersey cow, .Gould's Bilberry, RL V RL, whilst he also gained first award for ' his entry showing the most .points in 'the milk vessel. Wrenn Bros., of Tokaora, penned both the champion and the reserve champion in the Jersey bull classes, the red ribbon going to Silverlocks Duko (imp.). In the grade Jerseys classes, J. D. Wills, Hawera, secured first, for cow 2 months and Upwards, and V. Nowell first for heifer 15 months and under 27. • Milking Shorthorns are gradually improving their position at these coastal shows, and in a few years' time they should occupy a very prominent place on thk catalogue. The main exhibitors were It. Turnbull and Son, and they were awarded the championship, as well as a speoial for cow and the championship ■for bull. In the Ayrshire section there •was some' strong outside competition. The much-desired award of the champion cow went to Fred Mills's (Hawera) Lottie of Waipawa. Herefords did not ■ show up strongly, J. Forbes being the onjy- exhibitor of bulls, and he was awarded the championship. Sheep did not loom up largely, this portion of- the province being so largely given up to dairying.' In Lincolns, the . main honours were' divided between R. Brewer (Waverley), J. D. • Hughes (Whenuakura), Phillip'Brewer (Matapu),' and W. B. Grant (New Plymouth). The Moumahaka State Farm gained the championship in Border Lei r - cesters, ram any age, whilst A. S. Tonks (Hawera) not only secured first 1 for ram under 18. months, but he took the bulk of the awards in the ewe classes. Wairarapa Romney Marsh Bocks- were'well represented by,C. E. ~ Allen's exhibits, and there was nothing in the show to beat the Masterton breeder, for both championships; whilst 3ae was' .also the winner of, a special .award for the best 2-tooth rani. The. fat sheep classes ■ were responsible for some very good entries. The awards were—Three fat sheep, under*lß months, long-wool .(shorn) —W. B. Grant, 1 and "Three fat sheep, un- " der 18 months,-. down - or short-wool (shorn) —F. Besley (WKenuakura), 1 and 2. - Five fat lambs, long-wool—W. J3. Grant', 1; J. Morrison (Waverley), .2. Five fat lambs, any Down cross— iAitken Bros. (Waverley), , 1.; Dickie Bros.. (Waverley), 2. Five fat lambs, any breed —C. H. Lillecrapp (Hawera), 1. Three fat wethers, age not to exceed 40 months—F. Besley, 1. .Three fat wethers, 30 months or under (shorn) — F. Besley. The same exhibitor also scored in the class three fat ewes, age not to,exceed 40 months (shorn). ■In the freezing classes, Frank Besley secured two firsts, Aitken, Bros. (Waverley)' and W. B. Grant (New Plymouth) one first each. The judge in the pig'section, Mr. R. Perrett, : of Sanson, was very favourably "impressed with Mrs. Walls's fine Berkshire sowj Busket Queen, registerfid in file class for sow 12 months and over, and he gave her the championship. The Yorkshire boar champion- , ship went to the Porirua. Mental Hospital,: and the sow championship to j\lrs. Wall. . The horse entries are, generally speaking,-, a fine lot in all classes. Short's Scout took first prize for roadster or hack up to 13st., and E. Short's Keko was first in the up to list, class. T. Cutfield _ (Wanganui) was first for weight-carrying cob, and. the best troop horse. J. Brice's Hailstorm was first in the best paced hack class. Mrs. G. W. Campbell's The Earl was adjudged the best walking horse. Competitions. Driving—Miss Angus (Bunnythorpe), j 1; J. W. Burke (Elyham), 2; Mrs. A. G. Row (Bunnythorpe), 3. Maiden hunters' , competition—J. M'lj. Blair's Captain Starlight, 1; N. P. Patterson's Tofua, 2. A. Wood was adjudged the' best rider. ■ Pony leaping—Miss D. Cleaver (Hawera), 1; J.. Campbell (Brunswick), 2. The best rider was W. Baker. Hunting high jumping—H. ' Halcombe,.!; J. E. Mills, 2; C. Patterson', 3. Pony leaping—Miss D. Cleaver, 1; C. Payerson, 2; E. Wills, 3. Victor Cheese Vats are becoming more and more popular—6o have been delivered since July last,-and factory managers are reminded that orders are being executed in rotation. Victor Cheese Vats have middle drainage, and a sloping bottom, and the whey drains away more quickly and thoroughly. Why not get details? A. J.
