TORPEDO BOAT FIGHTS SUBMARINE
Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. (Rec. November 22, 11.20 p.m.) Rome, November 22. Details of the fight between an Italian torpedo boat and a submarine earlier in the month, show that tlie submarine was preparing to torpedo a troopship with three thousand soldiers on board. The torpedo boat, one of old construction, attempted to ram the submarine, but- the latter submerged. The torpedo boat, by using bombs, forced tno submarine to rise crippled, but the latter succeeded in launching a torpedo at close range. Both sank in a few minutes. Eleven of the submarine's crew scrambled ou to one of tlie torpedo boat's life-boats, and rowed to the Albanian coast. Later oil the survivors of the torpedo boat yeached Albania and took the submarine's survivors prisoner.
