The Ramsgate and Deal lifeboats vainly attempted to rescue the crew of the American steamer Siberia, which grounded on the Goodwin Sands. Several of the boats' crews were injured. The Rijndam and another steamer proceeded at full speed to the spot, but saw no sign of t'lo Mangareva.
