CHEESE FOR THE IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT

; —. * IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Pahiatua, November 21. There has been an important development in dairy produce. An inquiry has been received, originating presumably from the representatives of tho Imperial Government, as to what price half the. output of New Zealand cheese could be purchased. A conference of delegates at Carterton' to-morrow will consider the matter. The Overseas Shipping Committee advises that the Imperial Government will instruct that all meat must have priority of shipment over dairy produce. The cheese companies regard this as a verv serious matter. A deputation has already waited on the Minister of Agriculture, and a'pro'test has also been cabled to Mr. Massey.
