The Italian ship Euraeia, . which camo to Auckland some two years ago with a cargo of French tiles, was sunk three months ago by the enemy in the Mediterranean. Mr. J. H. A few seconds after a, white shot was fired across our .bow; and I then knew that it meant tho end of the Eurasia.- A boat al\d three officers then put off from tho | enemy's craft, came on board, and in the Italian language I was asked the nationality of the ship and particulars of tho cargo. After demanding the papers they gave us five' minutes to I leave the doomed vessel. From the small craft I was in, I noticed that these officers went twice on board tho Eurasia, so they must have taken away anything they liked. After an hour and a half three shots were fired by tho barbarous enemy, and the Eurasia, which I had sommanded for. over nine years in fair weather and foul, sank. The operation took five hours and 4o minutes."
