TOLD IN CAPTURED DOCUMENTS
THE HUNS' STATE OF MIND
(Eeuter's Teleeram.) London, November 20. A' correspondent at British Headquarters says that a fine testimonial to the ( British gunners on the Ancre is contained iu a German Headquarters message found on a German officer: "You must go short of supplies. We cannot get through the barest necessaries." Another German difficulty is tho lack of knowledge of the opposing forces. An order found on a captured officer said: "You must take prisoners when the patrols approach. Do not shoot them; try to capture them. It is clearly to every regiment's interest to take prisoners, otherwise tho higher command must order operations on a large scale with a view to identifying the regiments opposing them." The best index to what the Germans are thinking is found in captured letters and diaries. A Bavarian writes: "The English aviators 'and gunners are greatly feared." ■> . - ■- A soldier of the 66th Infantry writes: "For a whole week the awful English fire never stopped. It is dreadful. The one question is: How long?" A soldier of the 3rd Ersatz Regiment says: "This is wholesale murder. It is quite clear that Germany is losing." Another writes: "This is.terribly crushing. Wo now have doubts regarding the result of the war. What a disillusionment!"
