AWARD FOR BOOKBINDERS
NO SETTLEMENT REACHED.
Representatives of tho employers and workers in the bookbinding, paper ruliii", and cutting branches of tho printing trado met before tho Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. AV. H. Hagger) vestorday to discuss tho terms of a now award. Tho assessors for tho parties were: For tho union, Messrs. P. J. Fleming and AVm. Burns; for the employers, Messrs. L. T. Watkins and Hugh Douglas. The union's demand was for an allround bonus of 15 per cont. Tho wawes in tho present award, made in June, 1913, are as follow •—Journeymen bookbinders and paper rulers, £3 ss. por week; cutters, £3 ss. per week for certain classes of work; in other classes, Ist cutter £3, 2nd £2 155., 3rd £2 55., 4th £1 155.; casual workers, Is. Gd. per hour. No settlement was arrived at, the omployors not seeing their way to concedo tho war bonus in view of the fact that most employees now receive inoro than, the minimum of £3 55., and the printing industry will shortly bo before tho Arbitration Court in regard to another branch of tho.trade. ,
