GIRLS' COLLEGE SPORTS

THE PRIZE LIST. Fine weather, such as wo have not had for nearly a week, favoured tho College girls for their sports yesterday afternoon. Flags fluttered gaily in the breeze, and at an early hour tho pretty grounds were crowded with the. girls and their friends, and a large number of College boys were also present. A very picturesque flower stall, festooned with trails of lycopodium and bright with the hues of quantities of different kinds of flowers, was erected near the entrance. A brilliant red and white striped umbrella shaded one enterprising young saleswoman and girls selling buttonholes and sweets, circulated through the crowd. Large numbers of people patronised the Central Hall which was given up entirely to the serving of afternoon tea. Here long tables were set, so every one could sit down and enjoy their toa without bustle or_ confusion. Most of tho girls were in white and wore sailor hats with the College colours, the contestants in tho sports woro their neat, 'sensible gymnasium costumes, and very nice they looked. Most of the longer races had been run before, so thero wore only the final heats to bo settled. The directors of the snorts were the Misses Heath and Mackenzie, and the judges were members of tho staff, assisted l>v Messrs. Watkins and Ellis. ' Miss M'Lean,- tho lady princire a . farming gown of cream gabardine with a largo purplo picture hat, encircled with purple plumes. Mrs. Luko (the Mayoress) and Mrs. Firth, ® handsome black taffetas, and a black hat were among the niauy guests who ; wore present. ? n charge of stalls were: —Sweets: Miss Allan, assisted by membors of staff. Flowers: Miss Rainforth, assisted by members of staff. Produce: Miss Clarke-Johnson and other Old &irls. Two ihandsomo oak shields and .a silver challenge cups are to be-award-ed to tho senior and junior teams who are the winners in the basket-ball and push-ball finals. Mrs. Salmond requests us to state that the list of hostesses for the Returned Soldiers' Club forwarded to us and published yesterday was not correct. Mrs. Joseph Joseph will take her third Sunday as usual. A meeting for the purpose of making arrangements for a patriotio concert ,which is to be given by the senior pupils of St. Mary's Convent at tho Concert Chamber of the Town Hall on Tuesday, December 12, was held last evening at St. Patrick's Hall. Mr. W. F. Johnson was voted to the chair, and it was decided to divide the proceeds between the Catholic Field Service Fund and the Catholic Knitting Guild. The Rev. Sister Ligouri has arranged an excellent programme, and ''he musii-ioving public will, by patronising this concert, be given a musical treat, in addition to contributing to most worthy funds, to which nothing is debited for administration expenses, and which have for their object the providing of comforts so necessary for our gallant soldiers at the front.
