Sasanof's Cup victory has aroused dis3ussion over tho conditions of tho race, iomo considering that tho whole question of hisadicapping of three-year-olds should bo revised, pointing out that if a tliree-year-old is capable of winning a iveight-for-ago ovent, and is handicapped below that scale in tho Cup, its weight should bo readjusted. Sasanof, liandijapped at 6st. lllb. in the Cup, nine pounds less than the weight-for-age scale, weight. A month earlier Sasanof won :arridd 6st. 121b., including a pound overtho Spring Stakes, at weight-for-age, carrying 7st. 41b. STEEPLECHASE POSTPONED. By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright (Roc. November 17, 5.5 p.m.) Melbourne, November 17. ■ The steeplechase has been further postponed till November 25, as the course is dangerous. The Caulfield events have not been postponed. Tho club has arranged for a_ special train service from Palmerston North for the convenience of patrons of the meeting. •Tho yearlings purchased' by Mr. R. Acton Adams at the Christchurch sales have arrived at Porirua. Tliey are a Sarto—Chinook colt, a Birkenhead— Hoopoo colt, and a Birkenhead-Caller On colt. The trio will b& gelded shortly, aud will be put into the paddock until February next. The Sarto youngster is on tho small side, but. he is all quality. Hoopoe's son is' well grown, and should come early. Another arrival at Porirua is a full-brother to Crowhurst. He is very like 'his relative in colour, shape, and markings. The two-year-olds Sisyphus (Treadmill —Delusive), and Onlooker (Cannie Chiel —Mad Whirl) have been put into work by Cutts Brothers at 'Riccarton, and will be got ready for autumn engagements. The weights for the Auckland Cup published yesterday excited considerable interest. Mr. Morse seems to have got aver the three-year-old difficulty well, md, generally speaking, the adjustments have given satisfaction. It is unlikely that any of the top weights above Merry Roe will see the post, but she and Colonel Soult, who comes next on the list, may be looked upon as likely starters. Nothing is known as to the movements of Sasanof Hid Kilboy, but The Toll' is looked upon as a likely runner. Mullingar is on tho spot, but Snub and. Marc Antony are not :ertain to make t'lie trip. John Barleycorn is nicely weighted, and should be at his best in a month's time. His Mvner has. decided to send him North. Due of the best handicapped horses in the race is tho five-year-old Blackall, 7st. 31b., and a pronouncement by Trainer T. F. Quinlivan that the All Black gelding ivonld be a starter would probably send iiim to tho position of favourite. On present appearances it looks as if there ivill bs a good first acceptance, and probibly sixteen or seventeen starters will go :o tho post. For the Railway Handicap, to be run if: EUerslie on. Boxings-Day, 'Arran, 7st. ilb., is a well-favoured candidate in tho north. Local!}- llose Pink is well fancied for the Ashlim-st Cup, to be decided on Wednesday next. The distance should not bother the Kilbroney filly, as she was placed in tho C.J.C. Oaks, and has several times won over eight furlongs. Mr. Carlisle Studholme, whose death i reported from Sydney, was one of the most popular and best-known sportsmen in the South Island. He raced many horses, but tie best was Eeval, with whom no won the Great Easter Handicap, and several other, important handicaps. Eeval was taken to Sydney along with Silent Way and New York, but the latter was the only one to pay his way. Eeval was recently sold privately, but Silent Way was to be brought back to New Zealand.
