BALLOT THIS WEEK '■ The reports which have reached Defend -Headquarters from the Military pistrict's.show that the total shortage in the*",23rd and 24th Reiuforcements is 1359 men. Voluntary recruiting for ' th.et.tWo drafts closed on Monday evening;. 'and the number of men attested '■ for November and December in tlio "various groups was then ascertained. The shortage on the 23rd Reinforce--I?inonts was found to bo 777, and on the Reinforcements .582. The recruits .required/to cover theso deficiencies will ...-require; t<r be raised under the compulsory clauses, of the Military Service Act, '/"and it'is.'likely that a ballot will be : taken to-morrow for that purpose. >; ,: >Th'reo of .the- groups, No. 1 (Auck'Jahd.".City),.
