MAGISTRATE'S COURT

CIVIL BUSINESS. Mr. L./G. Reid, S.M., heard the following civil cases at yosterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court: — . A. and T. Burt, Ltd., claimed the sum of £36 4s. 3d. from H. H. Knight for work dono on a sub-contract at Trentham Hospital. There was a counter claim by Knight for £70 18s. 2d. in respect of Anmagcs for alleged delay in fixing the iron on a roof, together with sundry details. Mr. A. M. Sale!; appeared for Knight, and Mr. D. R. Hoggard for A. and T. Burt. After hearing evidence, which took practically all day, His Worship • intimated that ho would reserve his decision. JUDGMENT BY DEFAULT. ' Judgment by default was given in ,tho following cases: —A. S. Patterson v. H. J. Day, £2 Ms. 'Id., costs 18s.; B. Reginald Collins and Co., Ltd., v. W. Murray. £17 3s. 9d., costs £2 2s. 6d.; Dominion Mercantile Agency Co., Ltel., assignee for the Wanganui "Chronicle" Company, Ltd., v. James Galbraith, £5 155., costs £1 3s. 6d.; G. Hardt and Co. v. Henry Duggan, £10 155., costs £1 10s. 6d.; Albert Kellaway and Arthur Kcllaway v: Henry Mitchell, 18s. 9d., costs 75.: Medallion Art Company v. Mabel Lowen, £2 10s.. costs 10s.; H. Price and Co., Ltd., v. George Wells, £3 13s. lid., costs 10s. JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. Judgment summonses were dealt with as under:—E. Biggs was ordered to pay Upton and Bond the sum of £o 2s. 6d., by instalments of os. per week, in default seven days' imprisonment; T. A. Chamberlain was ordered to'pay J. H. Marshall tho sum of £13 Bs. in instalments of 10s. per week, or else spend seven days in prison. POLICE OASES. Mr. D. G. A. Cooper,' S.M., heard the following police cases: — Eva Grell and William- May wore each fined 10s., in default 48. hours' imprisonment, for insobriety. Gcorgo Golding was charged that on or about October 29, at Wellington, ho did commit theft of £8 9s. 4d. in money, tho property of Laery and Co., Ltd. Accused was remanded till November 22, bail being allowed in tho sum of £100 and one surety of £100, or two of £50 each.
