BANKRUPTCY COURT
The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) presided in the Bankruptcy. Court; yesterday, i . ' Arthur Eley Waugli, whose bankruptcy dates from February 6, 1907, and who was represented by Mr. A. w . Blair, was granted Lis dischargo.; • Henry Edward Manning, builder, who was represented by Mr. A. W. Blair, applied for his discharge. The Official Assignee's report was unfavourable, it being stated that bankrupt treated his bankruptcy as a joke. Bankrupt was put in the witness box.- Giving evidence, lie denied that lie bad shown contempt for the Official Assignee and treated his bankruptcy as a joke. When ho formed his business into a company, £200 of capital was brought in, and his object in forming it was to endeavour to extricate himself from'his financial difficulties, and also to avoid attachment, orders which were hindering him in his contracts. His Honour ordered a discharge to be issued as soon as ss. ill the £ is paid on proved debts. The application of Haroy Vivian Gazaird was adjourned to Saturday. HEAVY LIST AT AUCKLAND. The Supremo Court criminal sessions opened before Mr. Justico Stringer, who, in bis charge, expressed regret at the length of' the list—36 charges— which is a record in Auckland for seven years. The most serious case h a charge of attempted murder, arising out of a shooting in a garage. John "Wilson, for thoft and false pretence's, was sontonoed to fivo years' imprisonment and declared to be a nabitnal criminal.
