The wireless of the Arabia was unable to send out the S.O.S. call, owing to the shock of the explosion carrying away the aerials. The Arabia quickly listed, but settled down and righted herself, and'lay en an even'.keel, enabling all the boats and rafts to be launched without difficulty. She sank at 1.20. The sea was calm, and two of the patrol boats picked up her passongers, .the third circling round to prevent any further surpriso attack. Meanwhile two submarines were seen lour miles distant. Armgaard Karl Graves, author of "Secrets of the German War Office,'/' has been arrested on a charge of- attempting to blackmail the Countess Bernstorff. The detectives assert that ho asked an official at the German Embassy for 3000 dollars in return for an alleged embarrassing letter, which the detectives believe was written by a girl cousin in Germany.
