FURIOUS ASSAULTS RUMANIA'S RALLY SHARP CHECKS TO VON FAIIENHAYN NEW CRISIS. IN GREECE There is 'cheering news from all the great battle-fronts to-day. In the West both tie British and the French, have scored points iu slurp and spirited attacks on local sectors, securing their gains. A liquid fire attack by the Germans involved them'in dreadful slaughter. The Italians, ill the Oarso, have,straightened their lines, and incidentally made a, valuable haul of booty. There are certain signs and portents 011 the Russian front—interpreted by correspondents as the precursors of tremendous events. The Germans are thought to be meditating an attack on the Russian northern flank. Meanwhile furious battles are being contested on the southern flank, where positions have been taken and retaken and finally retained by the Russians-. The Rumanians are slowly forcing back the pressure on their - threatened country, and relieved of 70 miles of their Transylvanian ' front by Russia taking that line over, are concentrating effectively at other points. Von Mackensen is in rotreat in the Dobnidja, while Von Falkenhayn is faoing a harassing situation. Greece has received a disturbing Note from the Allies, and another, equally disturbing, from Germany, which threatens to regard as a casuß belli any concession by the Greek Government of the light warships demanded . by the Allies.
