ACCOUNTANTS' SYMPATHY

WITH MR. H. F. ALLEN. Mr. H. F. Allen, of Wellington, has received the. following interesting lotters of condolence on tlie death of his son at tho front from important, institutions in Australia:— From the Incorporated Instituto qf Accountants, Victoria "Dear Mr. Allen, —I am very sorry indeed to hear of your great bereavement. It must ho n great blow to you, and I offor you the sympathy of the council of tho' instituto. It is sad to think that bo capable a young man as your son was should he taken; yet you havo tho consciousness, as you say, that ho did his duty. lam posting you, under separate cover, the newspaper with the notioes of his death. ... . I beg to offer you'my own sympathy. Your son called upon me when he was in Melbourne. —With kind regards, Yours faithfully (Sgd.) R. J. Oehr."

From the Incorporated Accountant Students' Society, of Victoria:— "Dear Sir, —I have been informed by Mr. Oehr of the death on activo service of your son, Mr. F. A. Allen, and desiro to tender you and Mrs. Allen tho deep sympathy of our 1 committee and members. We had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Allen on his last visit to Melbourne, and although so far away from us, he kept very closely in touch with our sooiety, and by his contributions towards our essay competitions, and in other ways, helped materially in keeping up tho high standard which we have always aimed to preserve. It is very sad that with such a promising career'before him your son should bo so cut off, but tho knowledge that ho died Gravely in defence of a great cause shoud do much to assuage your sorrow.—Yours faithfully (Sgd.)
