STATE COAL MINES

I INCREASED PRODUCTION. Tho Stato coal mines have shown a very satisfactory increase- in production during the past six months. Tho Minister of Minos (tho Hon. W. D. S. MaeDonald) said yesterday that tho increase during the six months ended Soptcrnber 30 had been about ,25,000 tons more than in the corresponding six months of last yeaT. Tho production at tho Port Elizabeth mine had been 73.913 tons, an increase of 11,572, and at the Liverpool mine 68,539, an increase of 12,108 tons. "We have read in the papers about certain slow work protests by the mon," Mr. Mac Donald added, "but we have not heard a word from our managers about it. So far as 1 know, everything is going on satisfactorily as usual." ,
