MUSICAL EXAMINATION RESULTS

At the practical examination held at Levin in connection with the Royal Academy of Music, London, seven pupils from the Otaki Convent were presented, and all passed. The candidates were:— Local Centre.—Advanced Grade: Rene Johnston, 107 marks. School Examinations.—Lower Division: Marjorie Keegan, 107 marks. Elementary: Flora Greig, 112; Rose Cottle (singing), 110. Primary: Doris Webby, 118; Doreen Hoache, 113; Eileen Butler'(singing), 112. The examiner was Mr. Arthnr Hinton.

A meeting of the- Flower Day Committee in connection with tho effort to provide thin clothing for the sailors on board. H.M.S. Philomel and Pyramus took place on Tuesday afternoon. There I were present Mrs. Hamilton Nimmo I (British and Foreign Sailors' Society), Mrs. H. S. Hadfield (hon. secretary committee), Miss Lawson (hon. treasurer), and Mesdames Gibbons, Chatfield, W. B. Montgomery, Bracey, Cummins, Johnson-Wright, Scott, and Miss Medley. It was announced that two days after the last meeting Captain Hall-Thompson had received the sum of £100 for the sailors of H.M.S. Philomel, and a, cablegram of thanks and appreciation was read to the meeting. As the men from H.M.S. Pyramus had been on leave, the money for their equipment hadi been kept temporarily. It was resolved, after discussion, that in view of their return, £100 should be cabled to the commander, to provide the thin garments and anything else, that he thought desirable and that the money would provide: The balance of £14 was unanimously'voted for some Christmas cheer for the sailors on H.M.S. Torch. The money will be sent by" the representatives of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society, as the inception of the effort came from that society.
