THE INFORMATION DEPARTMENT. The following: progress statement of tho work of the Discharged Soldiers' Information Department, as at November 4, is made available by tho Minister in charge (tho Hon. A. L. Herdman):— Total number of men on register: (a) Disposed of, 4966; (b) under action, 561; (c) not ready for action (including men returned by recent transports), 390. Total, 5917. ' Particulars showing how cases dealt with :— (A) Cases disposed of: (a) Men who have work to return to, and men who have re-enlisted or returned to military duty, etc., 2132; (b) men placed in employment, 1171; (c) men who have signed "assistance not required," 1124 ; (d) left New Zealand or cannot ascertain address,. 148; (e) men who have not responded to repeated communications, and men who have accepted work the Department found for them but fai!»d to start work, 391. Total, 4966. (B) Cases under action: (a) Peports upon cases not yet returned by officers making inouiries, 155; (b) awaiting further advice (including men who have stated that thev arc not yet ready for work), 232; (c) at present on employment wanted register, 174.
